TOUCHED BY ETERNITY
Performance
Latvian director Marcis Lācis places a character clearly inspired by „The Dude" from the Coen brothers' THE BIG LEBOWSKI in the setting of a vampire horror film. A slacker who likes to go with the flow gets a chance to prolong that feeling toward infinity and suddenly discovers that this prospect is not so appealing after all.
The paths to immortality are explored with a touch of black humor. Among the bloodsuckers there is a guest from Latin America — a fourth-generation vampire, Pinochet's great-grandson. His Latvian “colleagues” are endowed with northern imperturbability and severity. They wear black leather cloaks and, in moments of ecstasy, throw raves. In the absence of lavish set design, lighting does the job: shades of red, blue and purple flood the frame, transporting the audience from the real world to the supernatural. The rules of the genre are strictly followed, but the final twist of this funny and absurd film may surprise even those who have already watched all the vampire classics.
