Nočno Življenje

Nightlife

In the aftermath of the mysterious death of her husband, university lecturer Lea attempts to maintain her spotless reputation by hushing up evidence that might otherwise discredit her in the public eye in this atmospheric thriller on moral dilemma, coming to terms with expectations and the perceived obligation to brush inconvenient truths under the carpet.

Vertigo

Milan and Lea belong to the upper echelons of Slovenian society. He, a successful criminal defence lawyer, represents shady members of the business community who have fallen from favour in the public eye; she works as a lecturer at university, where she encounters hostility due to her husband's controversial choice of client.

When, one night, Milan is discovered semi-naked and badly injured on the edge of an urban highway, Lea rushes to hospital. There she learns that the evidence discovered at the scene of the crime is of a highly compromising nature. Before public opinion has a chance to turn even further against her, Lea instinctively attempts to withhold information about the crime from the police, the media and the general public, though she herself would appear to have little knowledge thereof.

This latest production from director Damjan Kozole creates an atmosphere shaped by anxiety, shame and a general yearning for scandal, in which Pia Zemlij provides an intense, yet nuanced portrayal of Lea's sense of desperation, internal conflict and, through it all, unwavering determination. WK
