SECTION: Feature Film Competition

01 WB SPIEL

Twelve films from nineteen producing nations compete for the Lubina awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Acting Performance. Twelve stories as diverse as eastern Europe itself; from inner journeys to a barnstorming escape from reality. Films about people, more than half of them women, undergoing change: from St. Petersburg and Murmansk, Tbilisi and Brighton Beach, to motherhood and jail, non-conformism and a brass band, care and rebellion. Emotions ranging from tender family bonds and the making of history. “Keep up the good work” and panic reactions, solidarity and surreality. Familiar situations, individual fates shaped by ruptures, challenges followed by a hangover and a standstill experienced in fast motion; opposites that attract. All made for the big screen. BB
