Zwerg Nase

Dwarf Nose

Katja Georgi
GDR, 1985, 38 Min

Pride goes before the fall: Because he scoffs at her appearance, a witch enchants the cheeky Jacob into an ugly dwarf with a long giant nose, but teaches him how to cook. Banished by his mother, he becomes chef to the prince. The herb "sneeze with joy" is only one he hasn’t got to know. Luckily, it knows his girlfriend, the goose Mimi.

Jacob is pretty, talented and smart, but equally proud and cheeky. Sometimes he finds it difficult to shut up. This is also the case when he helps his mother to sell vegetables at the market and she is harassed by an ugly and crooked old lady. When he defends his mother, he insults the old woman because of her appearance. She takes revenge. Under an excuse, she lures Jacob to her home. There she conjures up the appearance that he found funny about her. She keeps him for a while, teaches him how to cook and then lets him go. But his mother does not recognize him again and so he hires himself out in the kitchen at the court of the prince. He is successful there, as he knows all the recipes, spices and herbs. Only the herb "sneeze with joy" he does not know. The witch has deliberately let him forget that because it solves the spell.

"Dwarf Nose" is an art fairy tale by Wilhelm Hauff from the year 1826. In 1986 Katja Georgi created this in the form of a sensitive puppet animation. AD
