This imaginative, whimsical film is based on Gisela and Bettina von Arnim's literary fairy tale “The Life of High Countess Gritta von Rattenzuhausbeiuns”, written in 1840. At the centre of the action is a strong-minded young girl, who unmasks certain actions of the adults surrounding her as highly questionable. On top of that she rescues the King from dark forces and is rewarded with the role of senior advisor. Henceforth only virtuous laws are to exist in order to ensure the virtue of mankind. If this will work however remains an open-ended question.
