The film looks back at the beginnings of the democracy movement in Cottbus. Contemporary witnesses reminisce. The song “Born in the GDR” by the band Sandow became the anthem of a new era.

The project was created at the initiative of the then mayor of Cottbus, Frank Szymanski. Theresa Majerowitsch and Dagmar Lembke researched film footage and images of the social developments that occurred in Cottbus in 1989. Cottbus-born film-maker Donald Saischowa produced the film.
