Trailer
When bureaucratic means and short tempers prove of no use, Rajko and Marcel resolve to kidnap insurance boss Gavrošek. And yet, as it later turns out, he also has a skeleton in the cupboard and an economic crime unit is already on his heels. Initially bordering on the farcical, THIS IS A ROBBERY develops a very unique appeal of its own, a mix of crime thriller, crime parody, situational comedy, and buddy movie – eventually, the kidnappers and kidnapped are able to find common ground. A touch of magical realism is also present when Rajko meets the country's three most powerful people at the end as they sit, godlike, in a Jacuzzi on an Alpine mountain peak. Criticism of corruption and beautiful landscapes (for those who want to visit: apart from Ljubljana, the film was shot in northern and western Slovenia, in areas including Ajdovščina, Vipava, Kranj, Jezersko, and Bohinj) complete this feature film debut from Gregor Andolšek.
Asked about his film, the director remarked: “It is a film about the fight of a desperate man against the merciless system in which he stands little chance. Although it is socially critical, it is not envisioned as a social drama, but rather as a mixture of genres that I like: a comedy, a crime story, a road and a chase movie, focused more on laughter and adventure, as well as on the sense that the best moments of our lives can also come from the desperate, absurd fight for survival.”
