Eyes trained on a gold medal, her hair full of salt: Daphne, 17, leaves her home island of Ikaria and heads to Athens in pursuit of success. And yet in place of the fame and glory she hopes for from the judo dojo, she finds terrible food and a ramshackle hut in the city’s harbour district. Between the broken facades, harsh daily existence, and a sensei who barely believes in himself any more, she tries to keep her head above water in the shark-pool that is her new team. A short-lived, feverish affair with a teammate offers a glimpse of hope – until it becomes clear that Daphne's greatest battle is with no one other than herself. Employing raw imagery, Giorgos Georgopoulos reflects on the need not to lose hope. And how it can be more difficult to stand up for what you believe is right, rather than to simply raise a trophy in the air.

Giorgos Georgopoulos - Giorgos Georgopoulos studied directing at Likourgos Stavrakos’ School of Cinematographyand Television, in Athens. Later on, he studied Sociology in Rome at Università Roma I: LaSapienza. Finally, he studied European Culture at the Hellenic Open University. Early in his life,being greatly influenced by his father (a director of photography of numerous classic Greek films),he settled on his involvement into the film industry. Along with his studies he started his careeras a film editor and soon thereafter as a director and producer, mainly of TV commercials,documentary films and educational TV series for National Television. In 1999 he returns toGreece and undertakes Multivision, a production company based in his native city of Athens,producing films, documentaries, commercials and music videos.
