ŁUŽYCA SHORTS I: SONNENKÖNIGIN
SONNENKÖNIGIN
Performance
As of 2008, the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg, ZDF, and 3sat have collaborated on the "KlassiXS - die großen Dramen in jungen Kurzfilmen" series. Film students are tasked with bringing classics of world literature into the present. This year, the young film-makers explored the theme of "The Stranger." One resulting work is DIE SONNENKÖNIGIN (The Queen of the Sun), inspired by Friedrich Schiller's heroine from The Maid of Orleans. Llewellyn Reichman plays a young woman who campaigns for the expansion of a solar farm. Though she receives support from the mayor, not everyone in the village believes in the blessings of solar energy. When Karsten (Lasse Myhr) publicly insults her during a Sorbian/Wendish village festival, the situation threatens to escalate.
