SECTION: Spotlight: Weimar Triangle

33FFC_Sektions-Buttons_SPOTLIGHT.png

The Weimar Triangle was established in 1991 following a meeting between the then foreign ministers of Poland, France and Germany as a political forum for dialogue aimed at intensifying European integration and political and cultural cooperation between Poland, France and Germany. This marked a reaffirmation of cooperation between three countries in the heart of Europe whose history has been marked by contradictions and twists of fate, ranging from ‘hereditary enmity’ and German aggression to two world wars, the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and joint EU membership. Today, the three countries in the centre of the continent are among the economically strongest and politically most important players in Europe – but how is this ‘Weimar Triangle’ reflected in social experience, and how do films depict these shared experiences? The FilmFestival Cottbus is showing nine films that shine a spotlight on Polish-German-French stories – from the Second World War to the present day. A selection of the programme will also be shown during the FFC period at the ‘C. Norwid’ Provincial and Municipal Library in Zielona Góra.

Supported by the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation.
